The lodge of Estancia Bello Horizonte is in a clearing about 45 minutes from Puerto Maldonado by car. It is slightly elevated offering a wonderful open jungle view.

There are several twin or double bed cabins in sets of 2 with a hammock or chairs and balcony, and private bathroom each. Rooms and beds have quality mosquito nets. A natural pool is set a short walk from the rest of the property and is a perfect place to refresh at the end of an excursion. It is also possible to play football or volleyball.

Quality and imaginative meals are offered in the communal dining room and the bar area is good for relaxing, swinging in a hammock, playing games etc. Both these rooms have nets to keep insects at bay.

Packages are offered so that guests can experience the jungle for 3, 4 or 5 days. Meals are included and an experienced guide will share his knowledge and enthusiasm for the insects, plants, bird and wildlife in the area.

My family recently returned from our Amazon adventure and although there are challenges - heat and insects and treks - we were really pleased with our stay at Estancia Bello Horizonte. We did a 3 day package. The food was impressive, the guide informative, the accommodation was clean and comfortable. The beds had very good nets so we slept well, and it was cool at night. There is also a natural water pool here - you need to freshen up at the end of a day out in the wilds.
We didn't see any big stuff, but we got very tuned into lots of smaller stuff - ants, tarantulas, butterflies, birds, lizards, small caiman etc - and the plants.
Another nice thing about this lodge is that it supports a children's home so you are doing good by going here.
Its about 45 minutes from the airport by vehicle. Some lodges you have to travel a long time to get to and others are too near the town. This was a good compromise.
