A 15th Century house split into 2 accommodations - Gandalf's House and Hobbit's House, that can in total sleep 15 guests (these 4 bedroom properties can be booked separately or together). The site offers spectacular views over the Vincou valley and was where a 10th century chateau was once built. Many of the buildings original features have been retained including floorboards, tiles and wattle and daub walls.

The Limousin is a relatively uncrowded region of France, yet is a delight to visit. The beautiful area is packed with interesting places to visit and fun activities to do including the many marvelous walks up and around the nearby Blond Mountains. The memorial site of the WWII massacre at Oradour-sur-Glane is just down the road. Limoges (25 minutes away) is the closest large city. As for more local entertainment, there is a tennis court and open air swimming pool with slides a 10 minute walk away and also the local Theatre du Cloitre. It is just a 4 minutes walk to shops, restaurant and bars and an easy walk down to the river.

Gandalf's House with antique furniture and contemporary pictures on the walls can accommodate 8 people in 4 bedrooms. Downstairs there is a shower and separate WC, large kitchen/dining room with cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and sofa. The first floor consists of a sitting room with wood burning stove, sofas, armoire, and a double bedroom overlooking the church square. The top 2 floors have a double bedroom (paneled, with four poster bed), bathroom, twin bedroom with large canopied sleigh beds, and an attic twin bedroom with iron bedsteads.

Hobbit's House can sleep 7 people in 4 bedrooms. After entering through a 15th century door to tiled vestibule with 1930's enameled wood-burning stove you will find a utility room with shower, washing machine and WC, twin bedroom (with a fully restored original antique box bed). The 15th century oak spiral staircase with original treads takes you to the kitchen (equipped with a modern gas cooker with electric oven and grill, microwave, dishwasher, double sink, fridge with icebox, and Limoges crockery) and a sitting room containing a sofa and armchairs, limestone canopied fireplace with wood burning stove pus a Juliet balcony overlooking the Vincou valley.

There is also a main bedroom with paneled fireplace and oak armoire, single bedroom with chestnut sleigh bed, attic bedroom with large oak sleigh bed and small single iron bedstead, a bathroom with shower, separate WC and fine views over the church and towards the adjacent village of Saint-Sauveur from the house.

Each property has night storage heaters, a wood burning stove with a system of concealed flues which heat the rooms above, wood is supplied. Rotary washing line and garden chairs. Towels, kitchen and bed linen provided.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Length of stay is flexible. 2 night minimum stay. The price ranges between £405 - £531 per week.
