La Loma's 23 hectares stretch up from the mangroves of Bahia Honda, through tropical forest, groves of cacao (chocolate), banana, and coconut to one of the highest points on Bastimentos Island. Accessible only by boat, La Loma offers peaceful isolation from the bustle of Bocas town. The land borders the spectacular National Marine Park and idyllic white sand beaches are only a 5-minute boat journey away.
Cool fresh water creeks run throughout La Loma and rock pools form natural Jacuzzis. The canopy tree house provides the perfect bird watching site and lush, nectar-rich gardens attract hundreds of butterflies.
Here they are passionate about the natural environment and committed to responsible travel. This has guided all they do at La Loma. By opening up the farm to only a small number of guests they offer a unique, personalized experience whilst minimizing the impact on this magnificent natural environment.
Staying at La Loma will give you a firsthand view of life on a tropical farm, a unique and intimate experience whether you choose to relax in your hammock as Blue Morpho butterflies drift by or participate in farm activities.
There are only 4 beautiful cabins each nestled in a private location surrounded by verdant jungle. Using indigenous Ngobe Indian architecture as inspiration, beautifully simple and comfortable retreats have been created. Designed for two, each cabin has a private bathroom with hot water shower and furniture crafted from local materials.
Naturally fallen trees and sustainably harvested lumber have been used to build the structures. There are no TVs or air conditioners at La Loma, only the sounds of the jungle, cool breezes from the bay and binoculars to watch life in the treetops.
You'll need to be fairly fit to stay at La Loma. Three of the 4 cabins are accessed by a moderately steep 5 - 7 minute climb. The views that you'll be rewarded with are worth the exertion. The Rock Pool Cabin is closer to the lodge and easier to reach.
The local Hooda Chi community program is supported by guests and others who wish to donate. See their website for details.
Prices are $260 for 2 per night in the Treetop Cabins and $240 in the Rock Pool cabin. Single supplement 25% off. 2 night minimum stay. No children under 6. Rates include all meals plus transport from Isla Colon return.
