Selva Verde Lodge & Rainforest Reserve is located in Costa Rica’s northeastern lowland rainforest region, adjacent to the Sarapiquí River. The lodge was established in 1985 to protect 500 acres of critical endangered rainforest, and conservation of the forest and the many species of plants and animals that reside within it remains paramount in Selva Verde’s mission.
Working with organizations such as the Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center, the Costa Rica Bird Route, the San Juan-La Selva Biological Corridor and others, Selva Verde has retained its focus on ecological conservation practices and education, committed to sharing an unforgettable rainforest experience with guests through discovery, interpretation, adventure, and interaction with the local community.
Amenities include 45 guest rooms, a conference room, two classrooms, a dining hall, restaurant and bar, pool, and reception lounge, all set in lush gardens on the banks of the river, with toucans, iguanas, butterflies, frogs, and monkeys making frequent appearances along the walkways. The grounds include trails through the gardens and primary and secondary forests, and access to the river.
Resident naturalist guides accompany rainforest hikes, and area activities include white water rafting, agricultural and natural history tours, horseback riding, and birding among others, all of which contribute to the local community’s tourism economy.
