Woods, fields, forest walks, nature and campfires make The Secret Campsite a perfect getaway for families, couples and those who just want to escape from it all. Tim has a degree in Organic Agriculture, his wife Lisa is a qualified homeopath and they have 3 children who cleverly have made The Secret Teapot a spot where tea/coffee or hot chocolate is available. So the site has a natural vibe and a great deal of additional planting on the site is evident.
For a unique glamping experience there a couple of secret shelters to try out:
The Tree Tent has been designed by a local inventor and it sleeps 2 adults. Access is via a wooden staircase and the views across the campsite and North Downs are amazing. Inside there are 3 single beds with mattresses, bedding is not provided. The structure gently sways in the trees and has its own grass pitch and fire pit. For a small extra charge it is possible to hire some basics like plates, cutlery, mugs, a small stove and kettle.
The Gridshell has been built by the same designer as the Tree Tent. It is a structure that sits on a raised deck and built of locally sourced ash covered with heavy duty canvas. It can sleep up to 6 people, inside there is 2 double beds with mattresses and 2 extra mattresses can be provided, bedding is not provided. It has it's own fire pit, 2 chairs and a table.
There 15 camping pitches are nicely spaced and a good size which are cut into long grass and surrounded by newly planted trees giving privacy. Each pitch has its own fire pit and locally sourced firewood is available to buy daily.
A newly installed washing up area offers a good supply of hot water and also a large fridge. The reception area has a freezer and ice blocks are available. The loos and showers are found in a converted stable block and are kept clean. A couple of "thunderbox" loos are placed around the site. Cars are discreetly parked away from the campsite which adds to the natural ambience. A trolley is provided to transport your equipment to your pitch.
Barcombe village is a 20 minute walk away along a disused railway track where there are well stocked shops as well as excellent local pubs. Holmansbridge Farm Shop is 5 minutes away and has a butchers and is open 7 days a week. Brighton is a 30 minute drive away, Lewes is just down the road.
The Tree Tent is £115 per night and the Gridshell is £110 per night for 2 people, a charge is made for additional guests. Camping is £18 per adult per night and children aged 5 - 16 years is £9 per night and under 5's go free.
