A 4 star converted 200 yr old stable offers an eco, cosy cottage with rustic charm + quirks, near the Suffolk coast at Sweffling.
Description
Badger Cottage is a 4 star accredited self-catering cottage in the heart of Suffolk yet only 20 minutes from coastal towns of Aldeburgh & Southwold, offers a unique blend of rustic charm, mod cons & quirky facilities.
Totally self-contained - yet guests are only steps away from a quiet village real ale pub & a tiny eco campsite with ducks & chickens, a campfire & quirky facilities including pizza oven and jungle shower.
This converted 200-year-old red brick stable is perfect for couples, friends and families. Two totally separate galleried bedrooms (accessed via separate staircases) allow guests in the master bedroom to relax and enjoy the living room without disturbing those in the guest (twin) bedroom.
The cottage is insulated to keep it pleasantly cool in the summer and toasty in the winter. A wood-fired range in the main pub building not only keeps the cottage's radiators hot throughout the colder months but also provides an abundance of piping hot water on tap for deep soaks in the roll-top bath. A stand-alone woodburner in the cottage's living room provides top-up heat and allows guests to enjoy the decadence of a real fire. During summer months the cottage's hot water is supplied by a solar powered system (with an electric back-up for less sunny days).
The cottage has a country farmhouse style kitchen and eating area, as well as a spacious bathroom with a beautiful original Victorian roll-top bath and shower over. The double doors give access to a small private courtyard surrounded by woven hazel fencing, with a table and chairs for sitting or eating outside. A small area beside the woodburner allows you to store and dry muddy or wet boots and coats - making it the perfect base for exploring the many wonderful footpaths and guided walks in the area.
At night, snuggle up in the sumptuous beds up in the loft - the double bedroom has a beautiful double bed with an extra deep mattress and feather quilt. The second bedroom has twin pine beds with very comfortable mattresses and a small double sofabed tucked away as an alternative to the twin beds. The double french doors from the living room give access to a small private courtyard surrounded by woven hazel fencing topped with solar powered fairy lights, and with a decked area which has a table and chairs for sitting or eating outside.
Badger Cottage has been lovingly restored to a high standard by owners Marie & Mark (with a little help from their friends and family!) to create a low-impact holiday cottage. Renovations were done using environmentally friendly paints and other natural building materials such as lime, and re-using reclaimed materials as far as possible. Most of the furniture and fittings are either recycled, hand-made from reclaimed materials or sourced locally. Solar panels heat the water for the bath, and all lights have low energy light bulbs - and a lovely big water butt takes rain from the roof to water the plants.
Alternative therapies bookable locally.
