Family run farm in rural Aberdeenshire offers a relaxing holiday experience for those looking for peace and tranquility. On site you can find a vintage rail carriage and a harvest hut, both sleeping 2+1.
Coastal Carriage:
A vintage rail carriage makes a fun and romantic alternative accommodation with panoramic views of the Moray Firth from its hilltop location. It offers privacy, charm and character. A woodburner will help you keep cosy inside and will help you cook too and there is also a single gas stove for making a quick cuppa! There are well-equipped cupboards with all you could need for your stay.
There is a sumptuous double bed (with a small single bunk at the end) plus a shower room (with water heated on the gas ring or stove) and a composting toilet a few steps away, or a vintage night potty inside for nights you don't want to venture out.
The water comes from the property's own spring and is good for cooking, but you may wish to bring your own drinking water. There is no electricity so a good opportunity to leave those gadgets behind. There is a selection of lanterns and candles and a cool box with fresh ice packs every day.
The view is fabulous, good for dolphin spotting and on a clear day you can count the Sutherland hills on the other side of the water. Games, cards and magazines are supplied for your entertainment. Think simplicity, think lazy mornings under the covers gazing out to sea. You will long remember the sound of the cows grazing around you, the skylarks singing above you and the wild rugged coastline of the Moray Firth.
£80 per night. A 2-night minimum stay and 10% discount for stays of 4 nights or more.
Harvest Hut:
The Harvest Hut is nestled in its own grassy field and sleeps 2/3 people in proper beds. Once used as accommodation for farm workers, it now offers a cosy wood-burning stove and bright furnishings. Cooking facilities include a 2 burner hob, kettle and all your utensils. The hut is totally off-grid with its own compost loo, solar power lighting and a shower just a short stroll away.
Locally there is lots to do, why not take a visit to Slains Castle, supposedly the setting for Bram Stoker's Dracula. Alternatively follow the whisky trail and learn about how the barrels are made, before enjoying a wee dram! Or if you are a lover of scones, jam and cream then visit Teas and Seas on site and enjoy them with a cuppa on board a unique yacht!
