OPEN BETWEEN APRIL AND OCTOBER
Set in a woodland valley folded around a clear, spring-fed lake created from the old Tregildrans Quarry the tipis are dotted about over 16 acres clothed in ferns and bluebells, oak and meadowsweet. Undisturbed by modern agrochemicals and herbicides the natural ecosystem has flourished, providing a thriving habitat for flowers and butterflies, birds and mammals.
At Cornish Tipi Holidays there are 19 authentic style North American tipis made of cotton canvas on a framework of locally sourced wooden lodge poles, bound with twine and hessian rope. These majestic structures reach up to more than 18 feet high, giving you a generous living area. Compared to an ordinary tent, a tipi interior gives you an amazing sense of space and light.
Each tipi is fitted with an external hat to keep the rain out and is equipped inside with the basics you might need for your visit. There are custom made groundsheets and warm Turkish rugs on the ground and lanterns on the poles.
You will be provided with your own camp stove and cool box, plus kitchen essentials from teaspoons to teapot – with a full inventory sent to you on completion of your booking. There are pots and pans to use on the outside fire.
Please note : To stay in the tipis, you need to bring your own bedding.
The tipis come in two sizes, medium and large.
The medium tipi will sleep 2 adults comfortably or two adults and up to two young children but if you are bringing a travel cot we would advise booking a large tipi.
The large tipi will sleep 4-5 adults comfortably and 4-6 if at least one is a child but to comply with Health & Safety requirements we cannot allow any more than 6, including babies.
There are 11 tipis situated in one of two village fields. The other tipis are situated alone or in twos in private clearings. Private sites have their own ‘garden’ bordered by trees and hedges.
Wake up to the sound of birdsong, go swimming before breakfast in the clear water of a secluded lake. Cook your bacon and eggs over an open fire while you plan your day, or just laze it away in the peace and quiet of your own personal tipi. You can always go fishing tomorrow, and walk along the cliffs the day after that…
Prices are from £160 for minimum 2 nights for 2 guests in low season up to £980 for a large family to stay a week in high season. During May and August bank holiday there is a 3 night minimum stay in the tipis.
