At one of the world's best preserved mine settings at Sala you can sleep in the Mine Suite 155m below ground.
Description
Sala Silvermine is one of the world’s best preserved mine settings. Here the visitor encounters dark winding galleries and vast caverns. It was all created by people using their bare hands which make the experience even more awesome. For at least 400 years the mine was Sweden´s largest and most important silver producer and today the mine area has also been developed into a venue for events and adventures.
Centrally located on the mining area, you will find the mine’s own hostel, originally built as a rooming house for unmarried men around 1920. The attractive building, called Marketenteriet (The Canteen), has 15 double rooms, all with space for an extra rollaway bed. There are single and family rooms also available. The hostel maintains a simple standard with a shared toilet and shower in the hallway. Come stay in a beautiful and rustic environment, with everything the mine offers just outside your door.
For the 'real' experience stay in the Mine Suite at 155m underground!
Whilst here take a guided tour of the silver mine. There are tours especially for children and can be booked in English for groups. There is a reconstructed mine on the surface too. A high wire adventure track and making your own silver jewellery are activities for adults.
Pets are welcome in some rooms.
