Historic former Cornish-mine building cloaked in woodland with breathtaking elevated views across the River Tamar - peace and tranquillity guaranteed! The Count House sleeps 2. Dogs accepted by arrangement.

It's not often you get to sleep in a Scheduled Ancient Monument, World Heritage Site, AONB and SSSI where there are badgers, kingfishers, cettis warblers, herons, barn owls, otters and rare mosses! The cottage is a converted building of a former Victorian tin and copper mine and sits in a fairytale landscape of ivy-clad ruins and tree-covered hillsides. It has sweeping views over the river Tamar, and its small but well-considered layout is perfect for a romantic retreat.

It has an open-plan living area which is cosy with a wood-burning stove, comfy sofa, rug on flagstone floor, simple but functional kitchen area and a table by the window for the views. The bedroom is a king-size double and is fresh, bright and unfussy. There is an ensuite shower room with Faith In Nature soaps.

Stroll to the village of Calstock and have a meal in one of its pubs, a coffee in the quirky cafe or perhaps enjoy an ice cream by the river. After browsing the art in the gallery walk further along the river, past the charming Danescombe pottery to the National Trust's enchanting Cotehele House. Have a day exploring the Tamar Valley Trail or visit Morwellham Quay port and copper mine. Within 30 minutes you could be enjoying Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor or Whitsand Bay. Return to your private decking, birdsong, river views and serenity...

Calstock with its railway station and regular bus services to Tavistock is a 10/15 walk away meaning you can easily enjoy a car-free holiday! The cottage is centrally heated by a carbon-neutral wood pellet boiler and has a log burner with a supply of wood harvested on-site. Electricity is from a green energy supplier and there are full recycling and composting facilities.

Short breaks are available out of season (min 3 nights) with 7 nights Friday to Friday throughout the summer months. Up to 2 dogs are welcome at £30 per booking.

Please note there is another property on site called The Smithy, just a short stroll from this one. They are screened from each other so privacy is assured.
