The Herdwick Huts

The Herdwick Huts are set on their own exclusive site within the stunning grounds of Rydal Hall in the Lake District. It is possible to walk straight from the huts through magnificent woodland to access Rydal Hall with its 34 acre grounds, manicured gardens, a grotto and tea rooms. A short walk away is Rydal Water and many walks including the Coffin Trail to Grasmere.

There are 5 shepherd's huts and each sleep up to 3 people with a double bed and a single bunk bed with hypoallergenic, memory foam mattresses and brightly coloured duvets and linens. A stable door has wonderful views and a wood burning stove to keep the hut warm. Each hut has its own outdoor brazier and bench. There is no electricity in the hut but tea lights and an LED torch is provided. A small kitchen area is kitted out with a cast iron gas hob stove and kitchen utensils are provided. Cooking gas and a complimentary bucket of logs and kindling are provided.

Nearby there are modern shower facilities and a compostable WC exclusively for Herdy Huts guests. There is also a washing up area close to the shower block on the main site. It is possible to charge a mobile phone etc at the Rydal Hall reception or in the shower block at the main site.

Sarah, the owner, runs yoga classes in the Drawing Room of Rydal Hall. It is also possible to book a weekend yoga retreat with The Herdwick Huts for 3 nights. The price for 2 people attending this with a continental breakfast and snacks included is £439. Please check dates for availability.

The town of Ambleside is close by with its variety of shops, cinemas and restaurants. The Lake District and all its charms are on your door step.

Prices start from £285 for a 4 night mid week stay in low season rising to £445 for a 7 night stay in peak season. 4 of the 5 huts are dog friendly and there is a small charge of £15 for a dog.

Changeover days are on a Monday or Friday with 3, 4 or 7 night stays.
