The Old Cart Shed

The Old Cart Shed is the most luxurious of room at Cley Windmill and offers a romantic space for a couple (or add up to 2 children under 12). Breakfast is included but there are self-catering facilities as well. With vaulted oak beamed ceilings this propery oozes space and character. The oak 4 poster bed is the star of the show and takes centre stage within the room. A fitted kitchenette gives you the choice of rustling up a meal whilst the tiled shower room is elegant to the last. Climb the oak stairs to the cosy mezzanine level, perfect for chilling out with a good book, or watching the night sky through the dormer window.

Cley Windmill dates from the early 18th Century and is a well-known landmark on the north Norfolk coast. It commands breathtaking views over the salt marshes to Blakeney Point and the sea, while nestling comfortably by the old quay, and alongside the flint-walled cottages of the village.

The windmill itself has been converted into a guesthouse of immense character, charm and comfort and stands on the north side of the village within walking distance of the excellent and unusual village shops. It has uninterrupted views over the sea, the salt marshes and Cley Bird Sanctuary, with Blakeney Harbour in the distance. The large walled garden abuts the river Glaven and is surrounded by reeds and tranquillity, where you can enjoy a drink on the new terrace area.

The ground floor includes a magnificent circular sitting room where antique furniture and inviting sofas nestle comfortably around a roaring open fire. The beamed dining room, part of the original warehouse built in 1713, has a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to dine. The upstairs rooms and galleries have stunning views over the marshes and the sea.

There is no evening dinner being offered at Cley Windmill at present - instead you can book a drop-off dining service. You need to order at least 48 hours in advance from selected menus provided by 2 excellent outside caterers. Food will be delivered, piping hot, in natty thermal cases, on lovely Cley crockery. You can choose from a 2 or 3 course meal which you can enjoy in your room, siting room or dining room, outside on terrace or on the lovely new decking area in the reeds. Payment is direct with the caterer. Drinks can still be bought as the windmill is still licenced so can provide drinks throughout the day/evening.

Price per night is £295. Up to 2 additional children under 12 can stay for an extra £35 per night Breakfast is included in this price. Single night are possible in this room, midweek and weekends.
