Tucked away on the Essex coast just outside Colchester is The Shepherds Hide, 2 luxurious self-catering shepherds huts for couples. Perfect for romantic getaways or a rural retreat. The huts are located on a family farm, hidden in a wooded area adjacent to the mill pond in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Mill Farm consists of roughly 55 acres of a mixture of arable, grassland, salt marsh, tidal creeks and inland waters. This environment attracts a lot of wildlife, the site offers an excellent base for bird watching and scenic walks. Coastal towns such as Brightlingsea, Wivenhoe, Manningtree, Frinton-on-Sea, Clacton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze, each with plenty of attractions and shops, are within easy access. Nearby popular attractions include Colchester Zoo, Colchester Castle, the luxury Lifehouse Spa in Thorpe-le-Soken and many Essex Wildlife Trust sites such as Fingringhoe, Walton-on-the-Naze and Abberton Reservoir.

Nearest Airport: Stansted (44 miles). Nearest Ferry Port: Harwich (15.5 miles) or Dover (127 miles). Nearest Railway Station: Alresford (2.5 miles). Nearest Motorway Junction M25 Junction 28 (51 miles).

Inside the spacious 20ft x 8ft luxury shepherd's huts are a comfortable king size bed, fully fitted kitchen, dining area and a bathroom. There is electric underfloor heating, a log burner, plenty of storage, a fridge, electric cooker with hob Kettle and toaster, sink, shower, basin, toilet, plus to ensure a cosy stay, the hut is insulated and double glazed. Outside there is a small patio with a seating area so that you can admire the view.

Basic Earth Botanicals toiletries and Bio D fully biodegradeable hand wash are provided for you.

Not suitable for children. No pets. There is no TV or internet access in the shepherds hut - its not called the Hide for nothing.

Monday and Friday changeover days. Mid-week, weekend and weekly stays possible. Check in is from 3pm and departure is by 10am. Prices start from £110 per night for 2 people. Open to guests year round with a supplement in high season (May-September).
