View on map CHECK AVAILABILITY
Perched high up on the Mendip Hills, Tor View Shepherd's Huts are a perfect retreat from modern life and offer an ingenious alternative to a log cabin or a mini lodge. Choose between Len and Ted, each of which sleeps 2 people (and it is possible to add an extra small person in Len), and enjoy the views from the eco hot-tubs. One child could be added to Len only.
Unique Eco Hot Tub!
Exclusively handmade, the hot tub is perfect to share a wood-fired outdoor bathing experience, for a soak or to just unwind, whatever the weather. The stove gets the tub up to your preferred temperature quickly, whilst you pour out the fizz and chill, watching the sun go down and the stars come out (logs for hot tub use are inclusive of 1 bag per night booked).
Roasting Marshmallows
Enjoy the outdoors for much longer around the fire pit or cook up a meal, whilst telling stories and keeping toasty warm. Fire is a natural gathering point and the fire pit is no exception in allowing you to find your inner ways.
Location, location, location
Tor View Shepherd's Huts is located in a pretty special spot. The shepherd's huts are surrounded by gorgeous green hayfield and just below one of the highest points on the Mendip Hills, facing south with stunning views across the unique landscape of the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor and the distant Quantock Hills. You'll experience glorious isolation whilst being near your car if required, up to 100 metres from the former farmhouse and farm buildings.
Comfort, comfort, comfort
Your shepherd's hut retreat is fully en-suite with flushing toilet, double glazed and fully insulated, with a wood-burning stove (Len also has electric central heating and a heated towel rail). So whatever the weather you are guaranteed to be warm and snug. A good night's sleep is also assured with a generously proportioned double bed, Tempur memory mattress, and luxurious duvet with fine Egyptian cotton sheets.
The technology (Lens Hut Only)
DAB radio Bose Bluetooth speaker, Wi-Fi, TV, DVD player and mood lighting and full mains electricity.
Ted's electrics are powered by the solar panels installed on the roof! This provides plenty of power for the indoor and outdoor lighting as well as the USB power points, even during the winter. So you can rest assured that your smartphone, tablet or e-book reader can be charged (using the wall-mounted USB sockets). This does, however, mean that there are no 3 pin plug sockets within the hut for devices that require more power, offering you a real retreat from the modern world.
What is there to do?
Local attractions include Wells (England's smallest cathedral city), Glastonbury (England's hippiest town), Wookey Hole Caves and Cheddar Gorge, plus some great walking and cycling country with a wealth of quirky pubs and eateries. Maesbury Castle is only a short walk away.
Caring for our planet
Tor View Shepherd Huts monitor and minimize waste, encourage composting and recycling, use energy with responsible operators and cleaning products, use local suppliers and contractors where possible. Both huts are fully insulated and have very efficient heating systems. Ted is off grid with solar power.
