Description

Camp Isopel is made up of Isopel's Wagon, a traditional, refurbished English shepherd's hut and a separate horsebox with kitchenette & bathroom facilities. Set on a farm in Hassey Meadow, this is the perfect spot for a romantic retreat for two, with stunning views towards Dartmoor and within walking distance to the beach. Your nearest neighbours will be Morris & Mable (2 Devon Large Black pigs), some naughty chickens and a flock of Devon Closewool sheep.

This accommodation is great for a couple, but there is a bell tent alongside that can also accommodate up to 3 children if required. If not used for sleeping this is an extra space for a couple use. For children sleeping in the bell tent there is a double bed and 2 cushions can be folded out to make sleeping mats for a third in the bell tent or in the shepherd's hut if preferred. If adding children bedding is included.

Isopel's shepherd's hut is off-grid with solar/battery powered lighting, it has been completely refurbished, apart from the original chassis, and beautifully insulated to keep you warm & cosy, with a cute 'Pipsqueak' stove for extra warmth. Inside the hut there is a comfy double bed and ideal seating area for reading with stunning views through the window. The green horsebox has been converted to house a bathroom with water-less loo & hot shower at one end, and a kitchenette with all the basic kitchen/cooking essentials at the other. There is also a fridge available nearby plus power for charging devices.

Outside you can take in the stunning views, where you can find a picnic table covered by a canvas, perfect for al-fresco dining no matter the weather! Plus a campfire area, ideal for roasting marshmallows whilst enjoying the peaceful starlit evenings. There are gorgeous nature trails for you to explore on the farm plus nearby woodlands to get lost in.

Camp Isopel is set in an ideal location with everything you need within walking distance. A 25 minute walk will take you to East Portlemouth village, made up of a number of small beaches to enjoy, plus there is the passenger ferry to the popular resort town of Salcombe with plenty of shops, golden sand beaches and crystal blue waters. In the other direction, a 15 minute walk will take you to the Gara Rock hotel, restaurant, cafe and beach.

This location is…….
A peaceful place in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (A.O.N.B). It is a rustic, off grid smallholding with resident children, chickens, sheep, pigs, dogs and guinea pigs. It is an environmentally friendly place; the loos are waterless, electricity is minimal and we run where we can off rechargeable batteries and solar power. Most importantly Meadow Barn Farm is a place where you can spend much needed down time with your family and friends and create memories for a life time.

The farm is not………….

A party place, a techy place, a noisy place. It has free range animals.

One well behaved dog is welcome.

Parking is available however not outside the accommodation, you will have a short walk to the camp but help can be provided with luggage.

Closed season October to March.

FAQs

How far are the beaches?

Gara Rock beach is about a 15-minute walk while the gorgeous sandy beaches of East Portlemouth are around a 25-minute walk away.

Are there places to eat and drink?

The nearest place for food and drink is the cafe and restaurant at the Gara Rock Hotel. For most of the year, there is a small cafe by the beach at East Portlemouth while slightly further afield is a huge choice of places to eat and drink.

Where is the nearest shop?

You can get supplies by going to Salcombe on the foot ferry where there are shops, or make the half-hour walk to Piglet Stores in East Prawle. Head by car to the amazing farm shop at Stokely, the garage at West Charleton or the supermarkets in Kingsbridge.

Can we bring bikes?

There are lots of opportunities to cycle down here so bring a bike if you like. The hills can be quite steep though, and the roads narrow. We also have a selection of refurbished bikes that you're welcome to borrow.
