Description
Driftwood Cabin is a beautiful off-grid cabin set in a field known as 'The Meadow' in Holset Valley, it is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway for two, or for a small family escape. Your nearest neighbours at the cabin will be Morris & Mable (2 Devon Large Black pigs), some naughty chickens and a flock of Devon Closewool sheep.
The cabin is off-grid with solar/battery powered lighting, built by local carpenters using local wood and as many reclaimed items as possible. Inside Driftwood Cabin there is a comfy double bed on a mezzanine level, this is accessed by a ladder and an interesting pulley system, if bringing children, two single futon bed mattresses which can be used on the floor are available. The kitchen area has all the essential cooking equipment, where you can enjoy making a meal whilst looking out to the stunning views through the large window. Sit back & relax on the comfy seating, there is a wood burning stove for chilly nights however you will find you rarely need it as the cabin is insulated with sheep's wool. You can also find a large hot shower cubicle, plus sink & a water-less loo in the tin bathroom.
Outside there is a covered veranda with seating, an ideal place for reading your book whilst enjoying the peace and the incredible views down the valley. Enjoy some al-fresco dining with outdoor picnic bench, plus fire area, perfect for keeping cosy & toasting some marshmallows of an evening. There are gorgeous nature trails for you to explore on the farm plus nearby woodlands to get lost in.
Driftwood Cabin is set in an ideal location with everything you need within walking distance. A 25 minute walk will take you to East Portlemouth village, made up of a number of small beaches to enjoy, plus there is the passenger ferry to the popular resort town of Salcombe with plenty of shops, golden sand beaches and crystal blue waters. In the other direction, a 15 minute walk will take you to the Gara Rock hotel, restaurant, cafe and beach.
This location is…….
A peaceful place in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (A.O.N.B). It is a rustic, off grid smallholding with resident children, chickens, sheep, pigs, dogs and guinea pigs. It is an environmentally friendly place; the loos are waterless, electricity is minimal and we run where we can off rechargeable batteries and solar power. Most importantly this is a place where you can spend much needed down time with your family and friends and create memories for a life time.
The farm is not………….
A party place, a techy place, a noisy place. It has free range animals.

FAQs
Gara Rock beach is about a 15-minute walk while the gorgeous sandy beaches of East Portlemouth are around a 25-minute walk away.
Are there places to eat and drink? The nearest place for food and drink is the cafe and restaurant at the Gara Rock Hotel. For most of the year, there is a small cafe by the beach at East Portlemouth while slightly further afield is a huge choice of places to eat and drink.
Where is the nearest shop? You can get supplies by going to Salcombe on the foot ferry where there are shops, or make the half-hour walk to Piglet Stores in East Prawle. Head by car to the amazing farm shop at Stokely, the garage at West Charleton or the supermarkets in Kingsbridge.
Can we bring bikes? There are lots of opportunities to cycle down here so bring a bike if you like. The hills can be quite steep though, and the roads narrow. We also have a selection of refurbished bikes that you're welcome to borrow.
