Eco Credentials:
The site is built with regenerative tourism in mind and income from this goes to developing projects at Leckmelm Wood including an outdoor children's nursery and forest school plus an ecological timber building company. The cabins have been designed, built and run to minimize negative impacts on the living world and all that call it home. Built using local sustainable timber, sheep wool & wood fibre insulation, renewable heating systems, low impact consumable products and refillable ecological bathroom and cleaning products.
All work on the cabins was done in-house from one team and this team also gives advice and support to others who wish to build better, more sustainable buildings that are small scale and high efficiency. There is also onsite polytunnels where fruit and vegetables are grown and eggs too, with a goal of self sufficiency. This is linked to the children's nursery so they have an understanding of how food is grown. The goal is to product enough to contribute to the local food economy. Guests will receive some of this produce in their welcome pack on arrival. Footpaths within the forest have been improved with hopes to establish a cycle path too so making the woodland more accessible for all people in connecting different towns and villages. Rewilding is actively done in the forest to improve the growth of native species.
Finally it is a wish that Ecotone Cabins will bring together all small local businesses including walking guides, paddleboard and bike hire companies, canoe and kayak guides, artists and more.
