Day 17 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom enjoyed a stay in Aerona in Ceredigion. Saffir offers the same facilties.

Find out more about their visit:

First Impression:

Open outlook with great view from the large grass roofed eco cabin. Unfortunately it was shrouded in mist for us!

There are 2 cabins but there is some space between them and hot tubs to each side to give privacy.

Great to speak to owner Jack whom we have worked with on all their properties since 2021.

The Accommodation:

We had a great nights sleep in the large comfortable bed. The woodburner was really effective, and lots of wood on hand, plus there is underfloor heating!

There is seating by the fire, a kitchen and dining area and ensuite shower. Despite being one open plan space it feels spacious, luxurious and all needs are met.

Outside the owner had begun to heat the hot tub for us before we arrived. We stuck on an extra log every half an hour for 2 hours until it was fully heated. It was easy to do while we cooked dinner and settled in.

And then we had a lovely soak in the spacious tub after dark. It was such a pleasure to be so warm in it while it was so cold outside.

On site there is a great playground area for children and the barn also houses a pool table, ping pong table and some giant games including connect four.

If you want to get outside then you can go out and meet all the animals as well as follow the farm trail walk (2 miles) which takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete.

Food and Drink:

The cabin is self catering and there is a pizza oven in the barn that you can book during your stay and enjoy the challenge of making your own pizza.

There is also a farm shop on site where you can buy the farm's own organically reared meat - great for a BBQ or English breakfast, as well as basics such as bread and butter, milk, eggs and pasta. They also have an alcohol license so you can buy wines and craft Welsh beers here.

If you wish to venture out to eat then the owners highly recommend The Harbour Master restaurant in Aberaeron. For a special treat Y Talbot Restaurant in Tregaron comes complete with its own Michelin trained head chef and offers stunning and unique food.

Jess' top tip:

There is so much to do in this area you are spoilt for choice! Cardigan Bay is famous for its Dolphins and you can book to go on dolphin spotting trips.

Pop into Aberystwyth and get the steam railway up to Devils Bridge waterfall and have lunch at the Hafod Hotel which is a beautiful country estate hotel. There is horse riding locally and a National Trust property 10 mins away called Llanerchaeron.

If you want a beach Aberaeron is shingle but New Quay down the road is sandy, as is Penbryn which is a National Trust beach which has a lovely walk up to it and is quite secluded.
