Day 18 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom enjoyed a visit to Cablogin Studio in Powys.

Find out more about their visit:

First Impression:

Having arrived after dark we were struck by the incredible star studded sky as we approached the cabin.

It was great to meet Sue and Roger after working together since 2016. They give a warm welcome to guests and encourage them to bring dogs along too.

The Accommodation:

Made from huge trunks this is a one off authentic cabin. Inside light the woodburner which can be enjoyed from 2 comfy seats and the dining table.

A sofa can be made into a bed and there is a spiral staircase to another bed under the roof. A small but functional kitchen, shower room and conservatory complete the inside space.

There are lots of books to read and Sue’s nature artwork to admire - or buy! (I bought several pieces!)

The verandah would be a lovely place to relax to the sound of the stream and bird song when the weather is warmer. We arrived just as the snow was thawing! This is a back to nature, rustic getaway.

The cabin is set in a sheltered valley with a lovely walk from it for you (and dog if you have one).

Mid wales is stunning scenery at every turn with a rural palette going from purple to rust to every shade of green. There are endless trees and fields and streams to admire.

Food and Drink:

Be sure to bring your own food for this self catering retreat. The nearby historic market town of Llanidloes is about 6 miles away and here you can enjoy a meal in The Red Lion pub.

There are also 2 Indian restaurants and a selection of cafes and restaurants too. A breakfast hamper can be ordered for an extra fee.

Jess' top tip:

We couldn't get over how very bright the stars were at this rural location, so make time for stargazing during your stay.

We really enjoyed a hike below Clywedog Dam around the old mines, and the view point over the reservoir above it. The scenery is stunning and only 10 minutes away from the cabin.

There are lots of information boards around that tell you the history of the lead mining buildings that sit below the dam.
