Day 43 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom visited Converted Railway Carriages in East Sussex, England.

Find out more about their stay:

First Impression:

Find at Northiam Station a collection of converted train carriages with varied space and history.

You will discover beautifully modern convertions for comfortable accommodation in a great place to have an interesting holiday.

Park near your carriage and you may want to take the train for day trips between Bodiam and Tenterden or the steam and diesel train to coastal towns.

Great to meet the lovely owner Sophie with whom we have worked since 2016. It has been great to see their staycations grow during that time.

The Accommodation:

From a stylish wagon for 2 guests to a large carriage for up to 6 guests there is something for everyone here at Northiam.

Whether you're looking for a couples night away or a quirky family holiday, this is a great place to get away from it all and enjoy a well deserved holiday.

All carriages have a kitchenette/kitchen area and en-suite shower room for your convenience as well as central heating so you can enjoy a train carriage holiday all year round.

Outside you will have either a raised terrace with views or a garden area, so you can dine al fresco.

Food and Drink:

The carriages are self catering so be sure to bring some supplies with you.

Locally and within just a 1/2 mile stroll you can find a multitude of great places to eat, relax and enjoy the countryside.

The White Hart has a great traditional pub menu to suit everybody, whether it's a chilly winters day sat by the open fire or a glorious summers evening soaking up the sunset from the beautiful pub garden.

Meanwhile, The Lime Wharf Cafe offers a great breakfast and lunch menu from Tapas to Burgers and fantastic BBQ and live band evenings most weekends!

Jess' top tip:

The site is located in a lovely spot close to Bodiam Castle and the towns of Rye, Camber Sands and Hastings.

If you're a fan of water sports then Bodiam Boating station is just 1/3 mile away and offers kayaking and boat rides along the River Rother to Bodiam.

Alternatively jump aboard the Kent and East Sussex steam railway and take in the beautiful countryside from the comfort of a historical carriage.

The site also offers a museum where you can learn all about the history of this wonderful mode of transport.
