Day 35 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom enjoyed a visit to Swan Lodge and Owl Lodge in South Yorkshire, England.

Find out more about their visit:

First Impression:

It was great to meet Ronnie and be shown around by Josephine. They have a fabulous plot here along the canal and plenty of land to give their guests a variety of things to do here.

This is all about romance and Josephine loves to add in new lighting or a sculpture to give the place more ambiance as time goes on.

Note that Swan Lodge is a little larger than Owl Lodge and so costs a little more - but all the facilities benefit all guests.

We have already seen lots of changes since starting to work with them in 2021 and look forward to seeing what else they do!

The Accommodation:

I really loved the quality log burner that is sure to keep you warm here - but there is heating too.

Everything has been thought of to give you a great stay including robes so you can move between hot tub, sauna hut and steam room with ease.

Apart from the dramatic carved bed, there is a fabulous large shower.

The kitchen means you can bring supplies and not leave until your stay is up! You may well want to do that with all the extra things offered here!

The electric hot tub will be heated for your arrival and is just outside on the terrace. You have grassed space around your lodge.

The owner’s land leads down to the canal where there are dual seats for sunset viewing across the water.

Book a session in the sauna or BBQ cabin included in the price. A variety of food hampers and massages in the treatment yurt can be added for an additional fee. This place is all about the extras!

Food and Drink:

Enjoy the fantastic welcome breakfast hamper of local sausages, bacon and eggs from their own hens, as well as a range of drinks and other yummy goodies.

The lodge is set up for self catering so be sure to bring supplies with you for the duration of you stay.

Alternatively treat yourself to a delicious BBQ or steak hamper or order a tasty deli box of afternoon tea, brunch, charcuterie, ploughmans or antipasti.

There is a BBQ outside by the canal, or alternatively you can hire the BBQ hut if the weather isn't on your side.

If you can tear yourself away from this romantic location then The Red Hart pub and kitchen is a 35 minute stroll away along the canal and The Blue Bell Inn pub and restaurant is a 40 minute walk away.

What better than to enjoy a delicious pub lunch after a lovely canal side walk!

Jess' top tip:

We walked along the canal bank and enjoyed the tranquillity of this location and admired the large houses and gardens located along it.

Set just 45 minutes from Sherwood Forest - home to Robin Hood, here you can admire The Major Oak, a tree between 800 and 1000 years old, that folklore says was the base for the infamous outlaw.

If you like the idea of taking to the trees yourself, then Go Ape, offers treetop activities with zip wires and wooden platforms to cross.

Closer to the lodge, you can discover the Yorkshire Wildlife Park - the UK's number one walk through wildlife adventure where you can see polar bears, black rhinos and tigers.
