Day 13 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom enjoyed a visit to The Lake House in Monmouthshire.

First Impression:
Stunning views over hills and valleys on the approach to The Lake House. Once parked up, the owner will carry you and your luggage in a gator over tracks to the accommodation, but this is easily walkable if you want to go out at any time.
Wonderful walks around The Valley. Bring wellies.
The Accommodation:
This lodge offers a comfortable space for up to 4 people, with large double bedroom either end, one ensuite with shower and another which also has a bath.
The central living area is comfortable with sofa, dining area and full kitchen plus effective log burner.
The outdoor terrace looks out across the pretty lake and here you can enjoy a drink or meal at the al fresco dining table.
You can also rent a hot tub if you wish for the duration of your stay or book a holistic treatment such as a massage or reiki healing.
Food and Drink:
The owners leave some basic supplies for you: real coffee (decaf and normal), tea and sugar, but you will need to bring milk!
There is a modern kitchen for self catering but if you are looking to eat out then the owner recommends Creates in Monmouth, just 8 miles away for a delicious Sunday lunch.
Alternatively you can hire a chef from Infamous Catering who can cook up pizzas, BBQ's all you can eats and more, or why not order some boxed meals from a local caterer including antipasto platter, afternoon tea or a beaf and chorizo chilli!
Jess' top tip:
We really enjoyed a visit to nearby Raglan Castle, which is about 20 minutes away. It is an impressive site with moat and half in ruin - very interesting.
You can also explore Chepstow with its castle and river too, explore the Wye Valley AONB or try a range of activities such as bushcraft, falconry, archery and arts and crafts that can be arranged locally.
