Day 15 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom enjoyed a visit to The Welsh Gatehouse in Monmouthshire.

Find out more about their visit:

First Impression:

Stunning historic gatehouse with a charming interior with converted mezzanine roof space bedroom reached by a ladder.

Climb to your apartment via a winding staircase that continues on to reach a dressing room and then a rooftop view of the area.

The Accommodation:

Good mobility is required due to a winding staircase and ladder to the mezzanine bedroom above the open plan living space below, however this does add to the romance of the property!

Long curtains cover the leaded glass windows to achieve darkness for a sound sleep and we kept warm in front of the woodburner (and the electric heaters) and the heat rose to keep the bedroom toasty warm too.

There is a kitchen for self catering and a wet room style bathroom on the ground floor.

This property has been well converted and you can enjoy even a one night stay for a romantic getaway. Although longer stays give a reduced nightly rate.

Food and Drink:

The owners leave a welcome pack with bread, butter, jam, milk, tea, coffee and a bottle of wine! Locally you can go into Chepstow, where there are a range of restaurants and bars to explore.

Alternatively there is a farm shop nearby for local produce and the garden centre has a cafe too for a light lunch.

Jess' top tip:

Enjoy lots of beautiful walks around the gatehouse. History enthusiasts will love a trip to Chepstow Castle - well worth a visit, or you can enjoy a walk along the river there too!
