Day 34 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom enjoyed a visit to Woodland Suites in North Yorkshire, England.

Find out more about their visit:

First Impression:

I liked wandering the woodland paths to find the suites amongst them and it was a lovely surprise to see these large suites with tree trunk beds and dramatic bathrooms hidden there.

David showed us around as he manages the site for Christian and Carolyn whom we have worked with since 2014. He is also in charge of organising the woodland activities for a good price to interested guests (from £15 each).

The Accommodation:

Enter from the terrace into a lounge area, with sofa (which can convert to sofabed) and from here you can access the bunk room with desk, or the large double bedroom with woodburner.

This leads on to a beautiful bathroom with large bath, sink and mirror and hidden shower and toilet. Choose Star Suite for a gorgeous copper bath tub!

Off the bedroom is the kitchenette area with fridge, electric kettle and sink. There is a 2 ring gas hob on the veranda for woodland cooking.

There is no TV, radio or wifi here - we loved getting off grid! You might have to talk to each other! Bring games, wellies and change the pace of life.

Food and Drink:

If you wish to get back to basics with cooking then you can use the large clay oven by the Woodshed communal area. There are also camp fires here that you can sit around, plus charcoal BBQ's to use too.

If the weather is typically British then you can make use of the interior of the Woodshed (pictured above), where you can find a long picnic style dining table as well as comfy sofas, a fireplace, twinkling fairy lights and sheepskin rugs.

If you would like to dine out then The Star at nearby Sancton, is just a 20 minute stroll away. This award winning pub serves locally sourced food in a cosy and welcoming environment.

Other choices include the Michelin starred 15th century coaching inn, The Pipe and Glass in the market town of Beverley, as well as The Star Inn in the City in York.

Jess' top tip:

We really enjoyed trying out all the woodland activities here it was so much fun and a great way to get off technology and back into nature

I recommend that people download films to watch on laptops before coming if needing some evening entertainment. Otherwise get back to basics and bring cards and games for simple fun.

Kids will love the woods by day, there is so much to explore here, that it is hard to drag yourselves away!
