Description

Stay at a working stoneground flour mill, on the north Dorset border with Somerset and Wiltshire, a mile south of the historic town of Shaftesbury, in a glamping hut for 2 guests - or take both for 4 guests. John's Hut or Miller's Hut are overlooking the millpond and with their own view. It is an idyllic spot to get comfy and while away the hours with a good book. A breakfast basket is included.

There is a field kitchen a few strides from the huts and for your comfort, a flushing loo and hot shower can be found in a bright washroom in the mill yard, a minutes walk away. Both huts have electricity and the field kitchen is lit by a string of lights and candles (there is enough power for the fridge and toaster!). There's something magical about spending time under a tin roof. They are a little bit different with a sense of history and heritage, a mill has been here so long at Cann it’s mentioned in the Doomsday book.

Characterful John's Hut is the larger hut and comfortably spacious for a longer stay. A small double bed has a supportive mattress, dressed with pretty cottons and an all season hypoallergenic duvet made from 100% grade A long-fibre Mulbery silk. A bijou Salamander stove will keep your evenings warm and toasty. Imagine sitting at the table with a brew and a slice of cake picked up from a rural farm shop - perfection. The blue Hungarian dresser is thoughtfully stocked with all you could need to make your favourite hot drink. What else? Hammocks are strung between the trees by the millpond and in the summer an old French day bed dressed with rugs and cushions create the perfect retreat. Through the gate and under the trees by the water you will find a table and chairs. For evening warmth sit around the fire pit and chase stars under the exceptionally dark nocturnal skies. There's a tripod and grill to use, plus fire wood provided to get you started (additional wood and firelighters is £5 a bucket thereafter), so why not enjoy sizzling sausages with your glass of wine. Under the hut you will find a 'belly box' with space for storage.

Not just for shepherds, Miller's Hut offers a cosy and homely stay with a small, comfy double 'floating platform' bed that when you open the stable door looks directly out onto the millpond, what better way to start the day! Add to that a hot cup of tea or coffee and you have heaven on earth right there. Outside you can relax on a comfy chair or simply unfurl a picnic blanket on the grass and listen to the sounds of nature around you. Come the evening be sure to light the firepit and toast some marshmallows whilst looking out for shooting stars in the exceptionally dark night sky.

Breakfast is delivered to the field kitchen a few strides from your hut. A delicious basket of supplies, including homemade bread, muesli with yoghurt and fruit to accompany, jams, milk and juice. This is included in your stay and a great way to boost your energy for a day exploring the local area.

The field kitchen is a rustic old tin shed with a table and chairs, and an area to prepare meals. It is equipped with crockery, small fridge, two stove gas hob, hob kettle, toaster and essential cooking equipment/utensils as well as store cupboard items such as tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper. Washing up is available here too, though you'll have to boil the kettle! Pure spring water for drinking and cooking is stored in the 8L Kilner glass water dispenser and there's a tap in the mill yard (again pure spring water). In the evenings enjoy meals by candlelight in this pretty space.

Gold Hill, Shaftesbury on the edge of the Cranborne Chase AONB is a walk across the fields and up the hill, about 30 minutes from the huts and famed for that 70s ad. Locally you can explore the beauty of Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset from this central base. With Stonehenge, Glastonbury and Salisbury just a short drive away, you can chose from the mystical and historic or modern and musical. Alternatively take a trip to the coast and visit Poole or Bournemouth for the day, or head to the Purbecks, the beautiful beaches of Studland and coastal hiking.

The details: There is a minimum 2 night stay. Get an instant price for 1 or both of the huts by clicking Check Availability and selecting your dates.

If you want to book both huts select 3 or 4 guests and the owner will confirm whether this is possible.

Breakfast is included. Check in 4pm, Check out 10am.

One dog welcome. Should be kept close, on a lead outside and not allowed on beds.

As an organic business, and for health and environmental reasons, the owners like to keep our use of chemicals to an absolute minimum and choose to fog the huts with Electrox Water, a chemical free sterlising water, after they have been cleaned.
