Description
Perched on top of a rock knoll you can find Sham Castle, a beautifully decorated, Grade II* Listed folly which was built in 1780. The historic building is full of character and makes an ideal romantic escape or small family/friend getaway.
The accommodation is spread over 2 floors, connected by a spiral staircase, which is a feature in its own right. The ground floor with original quarry tile floors consists of a well equipped kitchen with Aga and dining table with seating for 4. There are two small but quirky circular bedrooms with double beds (only suitable for single occupancy) plus a shower room with a brilliant rainfall shower.
Upstairs on the first floor is the enchanting oak floored drawing room with stunning plasterwork across the walls & ceiling, here there is a table & chairs ideal for playing board games plus plenty of seating around the wood burning stove which keeps you warm whilst looking out to the outstanding views through the arched windows. The master bedroom with king-size leather sleigh bed can also be found on this floor and boasts spectacular views.
Although the property has three bedrooms, a maximum of four guests can be accommodated.
To the outside you have 1.75 acres of enclosed landscaped garden to explore which overlooks the lake which you can also walk around. There is a lovely terrace with dining area, perfect for some al-fresco dining with the BBQ as well as plenty of other seating around the garden for you to soak up the rays & admire the surrounding views.
The lake is fenced; please note that the lake is used by fishermen. The lake is fished by a private fishing syndicate and unavailable for guest use.
There are plenty of walking & cycling routes around Sham Castle for you to explore the spectacular countryside, with the village of Acton Burnell a short one mile away. The historic town of Shrewsbury is just 8 miles north and boasts plenty of shops, restaurants & bars, where you can also enjoy a cruise along the River Severn. If you're looking for a day trip out you can visit the Acton Scott or Ironbridge museums.
