Need to get away from the everyday? This delightful shepherd’s hut (which sleeps 2) could be just the ticket, nestled at the end of a private track in four acres of magical woodland beside a lake, with 60 acres of organic farmland beyond to explore. The open plan interior includes all the home comforts you could need, from a double bed to an en suite shower-room (with proper flushing loo and wash-basin). There’s a warming wood-burner, a small but perfectly formed kitchen area with fridge (powered by a low wattage solar panel, which also powers the lights in the hut).

Outside, there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy this tranquil setting – from the patio table and chairs and the picnic table on the large deck to the jetty and hidden lakeside spots. Why not cook up a scrummy supper on the BBQ and dine al fresco – bliss! The lake even has a little rowing boat and is stocked with various types of carp, roach, rudd, tench and bream.

Shepherd’s Delight truly offers the best of both worlds, a tranquil rural setting yet just ten minutes from the charming Cathedral City of Exeter – well worth a visit indeed. The unspoilt east Devon coast is within easy reach too, with its traditional seaside towns and dramatic Jurassic cliffs. Or why not explore the local area by bike – head to the Exe Valley or National Trust’s Killerton House.
