At Skipwith Station, just south of The City of York, there are 3 very well-appointed self-catering railway carriages. The carriages are – the Lady Deramore, the Derwent Flyer and the Derwent Mail plus there is a beautifully converted ‘loading bay' – Blackberry Halt. All are situated on the old Derwent Valley Light Rail line, once known as the Blackberry Line because of all the blackberries on Skipwith Common which is adjacent!
Lady Deramore Carriage offers open countryside views and private garden with teak furniture. The open plan living area with TV and DVD player retains the original feel of the character of the carriage with its large windows whilst the double bedroom with en-suite hot tub style bath and shower is the perfect place to chill out after a busy day. A twin bedroom also has an en-suite shower room.
The Derwent Flyer Carriage and Derwent Mail Carriage can be joined together to sleep 8, perfect for families or friends wishing to holiday together. With decked platforms outside, a double bedroom and bunk bed room each, plus fitted kitchen, separate dining rooms and wet rooms, these carriages will give you many happy memories to take home with you. All carriages benefits from air conditioning and central heating so suiting holidays at any time of the year.
Blackberry Halt is unrecognizable from its former life as a loading bay and now offers 2+2 guests the chance to unwind in a luxury! Here guests can enjoy their own private courtyard with exclusive use of a bubbling hot tub! Inside there is an open plan kitchen with dining and living area and double bedroom on the ground floor. Climb the stairs to the gorgeous mezzanine level where you can find extra sofas offering amazing countryside views, a perfect place to relax. There is plenty of space here for 2 aerobed inflatable beds for children. This property offers underfloor heating for that cosy feel.
There is great walking on Skipwith Common (Natural England) and the sights of The City of York are just half an hour away - the Minster, The Shambles, The National Railway Museum, The City Walls and a superb range of independent shops.
Free Wifi. A communal laundry area is available. The Derwent Flyer and Derwent Mail carriages (which can be opened up as one unit) are dog-friendly whilst The Lady Deramore carriage and Blackberry Halt are pet-free. BBQ's are available to all. There is a large well kept garden here with badminton and croquet available and with happy chickens roaming free! Space for 14 in total. An ideal destination to bring a family group!
There is a 3-night minimum stay with prices starting at £225 for that duration in low season, to £435 in high season. Weekly stays from £450-£870. A one or two nights stay may be possible upon request for last-minute bookings.
