Description

The Cruckmill Wagon is a lovely original 'living van' built in 1910 and originally designed to be towed behind a steam traction engine. Sleeping just 2 guests it is located in an area of great beauty and tranquility but is just nine miles from the thriving centre of the lovely old town of Shrewsbury.

The owners have lovingly restored the wagon and set it in a beautiful meadow surrounded by a gorgeous valley that leads into the Shropshire Hills. Inside there is a comfy double bed, dining area and kitchenette with a cooler box & gas hob for simple back to basics cooking. There is a cool box for food and a woodburning stove keeps the wagon warm and cosy whatever the weather. The Cruckmill Wagon is the perfect retreat from the modern world. This is the perfect back to nature stay to revitalise your soul.

Outside you will discover an al fresco cooking area with a second gas hob and a BBQ area with fire pit. Here you can enjoy eating in the fresh air whilst taking in the sights and sounds of the meadow around you.

The wagon has its own private compost loo and shower with plenty of hot water. Enjoy the feeling of showering amidst the trees for a liberating experience. The shower doubles as a hide from which you can watch the numerous amount of birds that fill the woods around you - binoculars are supplied as well as a recognition chart to help identify birds sighted.

A comfortable 2 person hammock offers the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon siesta or an alternative place to sleep during the summer months.

There is a small flock of very tame sheep alongside the wagon, all of which have been hand raised from being orphaned, and which appreciate a hello and a stroke. Due to the trusting nature of the sheep, friendly dogs are welcome as long as they are well behaved!

Locally you can take a five-minute stroll to the nearby village where you can find a welcoming pub. Two miles down the road is a wonderful old-fashioned country store that has everything you could need. And there are many fabulous walks to be had with stunning views in every direction. On the way back be sure to pause by the babbling brook near the wagon - maybe even take off your shoes and socks and have a paddle - the ideal way to connect to the earth.

Please bring welly boots and warm clothing for the winter months. It's also good to bring something like a pair of crocs for the outdoor shower. Bedding provided but you might also choose to bring an extra blanket. Our welcome pack is a bottle of wine, pint of milk and a loaf of bread...

The old town of Shrewsbury is well worth a visit with its historic sites, vibrant indoor market and multitude of independent shops and restaurants.

In Winter an earlier check in before 4pm is preferred. Single night stays possible from November to end of February.

Arrival days are Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a minimum 2 night stay. The Wagon is closed from 19th December to 15th January. Reduced rates are available for a single guest.
