The Manger is a historic 3 bedroom cottage with lime washed stone walls and exposed beams. The thatched roof, farm cottage is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers a great relaxing retreat in the peaceful countryside near Axminster, Devon.
On the ground floor there is a well equipped kitchen & dining space, along with a sitting area to relax watching TV/DVD, each of these areas lie withing the original horse manger stalls. Going up the stairs to the first floor you have a lovely master bedroom with ensuite bathroom to enjoy a relaxing soak after a long day, bright double bedroom with views of the fields & a bright single bedroom. You can enjoy the beautiful exposed beams in each of the bedrooms. The modern family shower room is also on this floor.
Outside there is an enclosed acre of garden with a green oak terrace area with seating to enjoy the uninterrupted views plus a decking area with garden furniture for outdoor dining on the BBQ. The adjoining barn has table tennis for family fun.
The cottage is enveloped by accessible woodlands, apple orchards & farm fields where a variety of wildlife can be spotted; this includes deer, badger, rabbits, and a huge variety of birds and moths. From the doorstep of the cottage there are many pleasant walking/cycling routes with great country views.
A short distance away is a number of charming family-run farm shops, pubs, cafes and beautiful sites to see. The nearest post office & cafe is a mile away in Membury, you can also enjoy a delicious dinner at the Tuckers Arms in Dalwood. Just 20 minutes from the accommodation is the seaside town of Lyme Regis (a World Heritage Site famous for fossils). Exmoor and Dartmoor are a 40 minutes drive and there you can discover many Iron Age Hill Forts.
Parents of small children should note that there is a pond within the grounds of the property. Two well behaved dogs are welcome for a small additional charge, please note the garden is enclosed however with some hedging so we cannot guarantee it to be completely dog proof.
