'Villa Klarici for 2' near Motovun is a 4 Star ‘Hideaway for Two' - an 'Upside Down' house, perfect for maximising the beautiful views. It's an ideal place for couples to ‘Get Away From It All'. A typical Istrian stone house, converted from stables, it is perched on a hill in northern Istria, Croatia, in a spectacularly beautiful location not far from the borders with Slovenia and Italy. DOWNSTAIRS

UPSTAIRS

Spacious living room, TV, open fireplace, leading out to traditional Istria 'baladur' - large covered terrace with magnificent views over the pool, garden and towards Venetian-built hilltop towns, truffle forests, neat rows of vines and olive groves. There is a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave, coffee filter machine, toaster and kettle for guest use.

From the house you can see the unspoiled rolling hills, lake, mountain, Motovun and its truffle forests below and other Venetian-built hilltop towns. The views are quite stunning, especially from the ‘baladur', a traditional terracotta-roofed open terrace, which faces south and overlooks the pool and garden. There is a large hardwood table and chairs on the 'baladur' and it is used as an extra summer living and dining space. The guests mention this again and again as their favourite place to relax. A place to listen to the birdsong (including nightingales, hoopoes, bee eaters), watch the changing light and sunsets over the rows of vines and olive groves, and let the world go by.

The owners bought the villa in 2004 and by 2006 the renovation was complete, and then it was offered for rental. The house itself is built of the local honey-coloured stone and has its own private pool, BBQ and Mediterranean-style garden. There is one large bedroom and the whole spacious detached property, pool and garden is for the sole use of the guests. You do not share any facility with anyone else.

The guests are couples, sometimes on their honeymoon, sometimes taking a break from the rat race or just trying a new holiday location together. (Sorry, not suitable for children or pets.)

A modern bathroom and fully equipped kitchen, wifi plus full air conditioning have been added, but the owners were careful to preserve the traditional features of an Istrian house, with its beams, open-face stone walls, wooden and stone lintels and terracotta tiles.

This property won the 'Star Accommodation Award' from Buzet Tourist Office.

There is a local multilingual manager if needed.

7 night minimum stay, with prices from €770-€1700. Available for bookings from Easter until end of October. Sunday arrivals.

Carhire or your own transport is essential. Flights from 4 UK airports take 2 hours. Flights also from several mainland Europe airports. Excellent road networks from mainland Europe too.
