Day 19 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom enjoyed a visit to Netley Hall Hotel in Shropshire.

Find out more about their visit:

First Impression:

The sweeping drive, the huge Manor House, the wood carved reception with friendly welcome, the dramatic entrance hall with chandelier and sweeping staircase! All that before you get to your room!

The Accommodation:

This 19th century hotel offers 20 rooms, including 3 special suites, plus a lounge area, restaurant and bar and stunning grounds, which we enjoyed a walk around.

The hotel is lovely, with very personable and helpful staff and lots of antique features. I loved the entrance hall with chandelier and the staircase and marvelled at how they keep it warm in winter. All these impressive features definitely add a touch of romance.

The hotel rooms vary in design. There are standard rooms, but if you can pay a little extra choose a suite as you get a lot more space, even in the bathrooms. But my favourite rooms - and these are far more quirky are the deluxe suites - Blue Velvet, The Atrium or the Swimming Pool Suite - all ideal for celebrating a special occasion or even a proposal. Do request these specifically at time of booking.

Note that there is no lift in this hotel, but the Swimming Pool Suite is on the ground floor.

If love is in the air, then consider the hotel for a stag or hen do, or even your wedding!  It is possible to get married here with space to sleep up to 43 guests in total.

Food and Drink:

The restaurant on site offers a delicious breakfast and great evening meals and you can enjoy a drink in the bar too, so you have everything you need here on site - ideal for a relaxing weekend away.

Alternatively take a short drive and head to the local village where you can enjoy a pint at the pub or find a rural pub deep within the Shropshire Hills.

Jess' top tip:

The hotel is just a 10 minute drive from the Shropshire Hill AONB, so this is a great location for those who love getting out into nature and enjoy a good hike.

Be sure to visit Caer Caradoc, above Church Stretton, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of Shropshire’s Hills and where you can see the remains of an Iron Age hillfort at the peak.

The hotel is also just a 30 minute drive from Powis Castle. Unfortunately the castle itself was closed when we visited, but we really loved seeing the beautiful gardens - well worth a trip!

Hen/Stag groups will enjoy a game of paint balling or a horse riding lesson close to the hotel.
