House of Round

Colyton, Devon, England

Special eco roundhouse with raised deck for treehouse feel, private hot tub & lots of woodland to explore.

The Quirky Tour

What a beautiful place has been created here with every detail thought out.

Come in winter and have no concerns about being completely warm with the fire going. We had wet and windy weather but spend time in the hot tub under a black sky - it has been such a pleasure.

Description

Situated within fifty five acres of Devon’s famous Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the House of Round is completely secluded, neither in view of neighbours or any neighbours in view. This is the rare opportunity to stay within a large plot of gorgeous woodland without having to share it with other holiday units, a genuine opportunity to escape the outside world.

With its raised deck looking out into the trees enjoy the feel of a treehouse without compromising on the creature comforts! Including an indoor shower room and flushing loo, double bed, smart tv, high quality indoor and outdoor speakers and of course a fabulous hot tub built into the decking with a view down into the woodland and over the valley.

You can take a stroll through a private woodland walk that is filled to the brim with local wildlife, with a sparkling brook running throughout where kingfishers are not uncommon. Alternatively take to the coast and visit the beach at Sidmouth or the quarry caves at Beer. A trip to the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is also a popular way to spend a few hours!

If you are looking to eat out, then The Hare and Hounds is a fabulous pub only five minutes drive away. They provide an exceptional menu and carvery as well as very friendly staff. Glebe House restaurant in the village is also very good but please note they are closed in January for a well deserved rest. Alternatively The Pig restaurant which is also very local, just outside Honiton is a great place to dine.

This may not suitable for those with mobility difficulties due the walk to the property.

The owners are committed to making your stay unique and memorable, this includes baggage assistance for arrival and departure.

Adults only. No children or infants.

Dogs are welcome by arrangement only. There are sheep, deer and other wildlife around the estate which will make the stay unsuitable for some dog owners. Please give information about your dog in the comment box when you request to book.

Please click Check Availability for dates and prices.

Parking is available in a private yard and from there the property is a 5 minute woodland walk away. The owner can take your baggage by vehicle.

*IMPORTANT. THIS RETREAT IS SITUATED IN WILD WOODLAND, THIS MEANS THERE ARE TRIPPING HAZARDS SUCH AS TREE ROOTS AND AREAS PRONE TO MUD, ESPECIALLY IN POOR WEATHER. PLEASE BRING SUITABLE FOOTWEAR, WATERPROOF WITH GOOD TREAD TO PREVENT SLIPPING ON THE TERRAIN.

THE HOUSE OF ROUND IS LOCATED AT THE END OF A LONG BUMPY TRACK. PLEASE DRIVE EXCEPTIONALLY SLOWLY, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE DRIVING A LOW VEHICLE.

*** Please note the dates for Wiscombe Park Hill Climb as this will affect your stay. Fun event but noisy vehicles on neighbouring land. If staying at this time you are entitled to free admission to the Hill Climb and meeting paddock, where there is normally a beer tent, tea and coffees, ice cream and burger vendors. This is about a fifteen minute walk from the Roundhouse along private tracks. Dates are provisional.

FAQs

Can I bring any dog?

We ask that you discuss this with us. There is a lot of wildlife around the House of Round. If your dog is likely to chase animals they will not be suitable for a stay here I'm afraid.

Can I get a lift to the accommodation as I can't walk easily?

You are required to make the 5 minute beautiful walk through woodland to reach House of Round yourself. This location is not suitable for those with mobility issues.

Will you carry our luggage?

Let us know when you are due to arrive and we will carry your luggage to the property by vehicle.

I have a sports car. Is it suitable to reach the property with this?

If you have a low vehicle, please note that the entrance road is bumpy and may not be suitable for your vehicle. Before arrival arrange to park in another spot before reaching the house and be collected from there.

Is there a supermarket nearby?

There is a small amenities shop in Colyton but a large Tesco can be found in Seaton, just a 15 minute drive away.

What should we bring with us?

We recommend you bring wellies or hiking boots as the walk to the property can be slippery and is fairly steep. Also any food and drink you will need.
