Day 30 of The Quirky Tour and Jess and Dom enjoyed a stay at Glamping in Glenshee in Perthshire & Kinross, Scotland.

Find out more about their visit:

First Impression:

You are up high on a hillside with a beautiful outlook and there are farm animals and llamas round and about so the setting is rural and lovely.

Come prepared for being inside and out here. No wifi to enjoy a back to nature experience.

Great to meet owners Helena (and Nathan and their son), who was really helpful during our stay and we have worked with since their opening in 2022.

The Accommodation:

Great site set on the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park. You can come here as a couple but children are also very welcome, and the glamping is set up for children to be added in where possible.

Helena and Nathan, the owners, are keen for children to enjoy the animals and the play area and get back to old fashioned enjoyment.

We personally stayed in Tummelberry Shepherd's Hut and can verify that we were really warm and cosy throughout our stay using the log burner.

Some wood is supplied for you and then you can buy extra at £10 for a bucket's worth. This was a must for Scotland in winter!

All accommodation has bed/s and living space, with allocated shower rooms (these may need to be shared when they have a full house.)

You can bring all bedding and towels with you or hire it at an extra cost. Other properties onsite include:

The Goods Wagon - sleeps 5

Mulberry Cabin - sleeps 6

Blackberry Shepherds Hut - sleeps 2

Cosy Glamping Pod - sleeps 2

Family Glamping Pod - sleeps 4

The large kitchen / dining / games room with fire and heating known as "The Bothy" is open to all guests and the owners find that guests socialise here as they cook and kids make friends over a board game.

There is more than one cooker and fridge here with pots, pans, cutlery, plates etc and sink for washing up.

If you're staying in Mulberry Cabin - the largest on the site - there is a fridge and mini kitchen area inside the property.

Whilst here you can rent the wood fired hot tub (for a cost of £95) which is situated on a platform with a great view and private changing area. Alternatively if you are staying in one of the glamping pods, you can rent a rectangular Swedish Hot tub bath to be placed in front of your pod for an afternoon/evening for £79.

Of a night time you can enjoy the starry night sky and the twinkle of the fairy lights around you - great for a spot of romance!

Food and Drink:

This site is fairly remote - part of its attraction, so be sure to bring what you need with you so you can self cater.

If you would like to dine out then The Glenisla Hotel and Restaurant is just a 10 minute drive away and offers a very friendly welcome to guests from this site.

There is a local village shop at Kirkmicheal and if you do need to do a bigger shop then Tesco's can be found in Blairgowrie which is about 20 minutes away.

Jess' top tip:

We really enjoyed our skiing session at the Glenshee Ski Centre - it was so much fun! Despite the fact the snow had all melted in this area when we visited there was one ski slope open so I did have a go!

I haven’t skied for a few years but it does seem it is like riding a bike. It’s a good extra to add to a winter holiday in these parts.

We also enjoyed a sunset walk to a small loch, where we passed fields of sheep in the pretty dusk light along the way, careful to avoid the trees where birds of prey were nesting.
